If you’re familiar with the YouTube community – or if you’ve been keeping tabs on my blog recently – then you may already recognise the subject of this post. But, just in case you don’t, allow me to introduce you to pop singer/songwriter, Alex Goot.
Hailing from New York, Goot is a, currently unsigned, artist who found popularity through various social media networking sites – most notably uploading cover videos to YouTube. Since starting his channel five years ago, Goot has amassed over 412 million hits, as well as 242 thousand Twitter followers and 1.1 million Facebook likes.
Over the years, Goot slowly started to branch out from covers to also include original material, the first of which being a track called ‘Breathless’ which – since its upload in 2010 – now has two and a half million views. He also frequently collaborates with a host of other artists on his channel, among them, We Are The In Crowd and Against The Current’s Chrissy Costanza.
Having released a number of singles, eps and albums of both original and cover tracks, Goot put out his first studio album, ‘In Your Atmosphere’, in 2012 following a successful Kickstarter campaign. His most recent full-length, ‘Wake Up Call’, followed in 2014 – the music video for the title track featuring an appearance from popular YouTube beauty guru Elle Fowler, to whom Goot recently became engaged.

At the top of this year, Goot also embarked on a European tour, during which he graced the stage at some renowned UK venues including King Tuts in Glasgow and London’s 02 Islington Academy. He has since premiered his newest track ‘Unstoppable’ – penned for his now-fiancée – online.
As well as this, Goot continues to share covers, the most recent being a version of Queen’s classic Bohemian rhapsody, featuring Sam Tsui, Kurt Schneider, and Tyler Ward. With over 200 views since its upload just over a week ago, and over two million YouTube subscribers, I’d say Goot is showing signs of being pretty unstoppable himself.
Final Verdict: (As you can probably tell) I’m really enjoying Goot’s music at the moment; I’m still obsessed with ‘Secret Girl’ and ‘Wake Up Call’ after including them in my previous ‘Tracks of the Month’, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the ‘In Your Atmosphere’ and ‘Wake Up Call’ albums.
