Why hello there, thanks for stopping by.
It’s actually the last Thursday in July; I can’t believe we’re already over halfway through 2016!
In my introduction to this Jammin’ In July series, I originally said that today was going to be a #ThrowbackThursday review of Set It Off’s sophomore album ‘Duality’. However, I’ve decided to roll that post over to next week because I just wanted to write more of a spontaneous, chatty post to end this series, and I feel a few thank you’s are in order too.
Firstly, I’d just like to reiterate that this blog is primarily a hobby. Yes, I do have a degree in music journalism and I would love for it to become my career but, at present, I do not get paid for anything you see on here, and I don’t have an established publication behind me that I work for. It is just me: my creative outlet.
To that end, I’m extremely grateful to anyone who takes time out of their day (or night) to read something I’ve written, because if there was no one reading during the six years I’ve been doing this, I wouldn’t be able to do it – what would be the point?
Similarly, it’s always such an amazing feeling when an artist I’ve written about ‘likes’, re-tweets or shares my work on social media, reaches out to thank me for a particular review, or to say that they like what I’ve done. As I’ve said in previous blog posts like my ‘Top 10 Interviews Wish List’, the reason I write about any artist is because, at the core of everything, I’m a fan of what they’re doing and there’s a certain amount of admiration and respect there. So, to get any kind of positive feedback is an awesome thing for little ol’ me who sits in my bedroom and writes reviews about music that I’m passionate about and want to share.
Over the course of this month I’ve received some lovely messages, as well as multiple ‘likes’ and re-tweets on Twitter, from artists that I admire and I never feel entitled to that. I never automatically expect, because I’ve written a piece about someone’s music, they’re going to share it on social media or reach out to me in anyway, so it’s always exciting when it happens.
So, I just wanted to take the time to say a massive thank you to those who have ‘liked’, re-tweeted or shared my work in any way; in particular singer-songwriter Alex Marshall, young emerging talent Lianne Kaye and rap/rock duo Stevie P and Sketch. It means so much to me that you’ve read what I’ve written and like it enough to share it with your fan-bases and friends, please know that it never goes unappreciated. And, to anyone who has read or shared any of my reviews over this last month (or quite frankly, ever) thank you, I truly appreciate it all.
But, what happens now? Well, I’ll be going back to uploading once a week throughout August and the coming months. I’ve really enjoyed posting these pieces and getting back into a routine – as they were all reviews that I was really excited to share with you – so I’ll definitely be continuing to upload regularly. Watch this space (not literally, that would be kinda weird, but you get what I’m saying right?)
