One To Watch: Robbie Coles.

Robbie Coles is an emerging singer/songwriter hailing from UK seaside town, Weston-Super-Mare. Previously the vocalist/bassist for pop-punk trio
Show It Off, Coles recently premiered his first original song Hey Summer on YouTube. Shortly after, the acoustic performer also bagged himself a support slot on Room 94’s ‘Three Brothers and 1 Kit’ summer tour.

A bit of a departure from Show It Off and their All Time Low-esque feel,
Hey Summer is a lighthearted, dreamy pop song that – as the name suggests – is a perfect fit for the heatwave weather that has hit the UK in recent weeks.

With a bright and bouncy acoustic opening, and an infectious beat that will have listeners clapping along almost immediately, the track has a fun, carefree vibe from the get-go. This carries throughout the track with catchy ‘do d- do-d-do’ refrains and playful lyrics such as, “what if I told ya, I’ll show ya, how red heads make you hot.” The chorus introduces a dreamy synth pattern that gives the track a very summer-like feel, and Robbie’s distinctive vocals are terrific, tying everything together brilliantly.

Coles also posts videos on YouTube and, after posting a cover of All Time Low’s track Somewhere in Neverland, earlier this year was named by Hopeless Records as one of their top ten covers.

Robbie has also posted a host of other covers from the likes of The Maine, We The Kings, and there’s even a version of Carly Rae Jepson’s chart topper, Call Me Maybe in there for your viewing pleasure.

I first came to hear Robbie’s music when I came across his cover of Heartbreak Girl by Australian pop-rock foursome, Five Seconds of Summer. After one or two listens I fell in love with his insanely addictive vocals and just kept wanting to hear it, and hear more tracks from him.
