American pop-punkers All Time Low premiered their new single, Something’s Gotta Give, on BBC Radio One’s Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw this morning. Having jetted in from the states, Frontman Alex Gaskarth and Drummer Rian Dawson had a chat with Grimshaw about the single, their upcoming February tour and also let listeners know what question they most dislike answering.
If you were still tucked up in bed at 8am this morning, you can listen to it here (the guys are on from around 1 hour 24 mins onwards – you’re welcome.)
Taken from their eagerly anticipated sixth studio album, Future Hearts, Something’s Gotta Give is everything you’d expect from an All Time Low track.
It begins with a slightly indie, guitar-lead opening and a cheeky, playful vibe – “I woke up in a stranger’s bed/with pins and needles in my head” – which makes way for a killer pop-punk chorus with major sing/shout-along vibes. There are also some darker, yet motivational, undertones to the lyrics, “Wake me up, say enough is enough/I’m dying to live, something’s gotta give.”
It seems to be a song about realising you’re on the wrong path and having the choice to choose a different one – almost like a musical kick up the ass.
The whole thing has a touch of something familiar about it, kind of like that feeling you get when you see an old friend you haven’t seen in a while. But, after a year-long break with them hard at work behind the scenes, I guess that’s exactly what it is.
What do you think of the song? Feel free to let me know in a comment. 🙂
