Last night Arizona based pop-rockers The Summer Set made a pretty big announcement on Twitter. Not only did they confirm the release date for upcoming album Legendary, they also premiered the music video for their new single ‘Maybe Tonight’, and posted the album artwork and track-listing of the new record. Legendary will be available in the UK on April 15th and in the US on April 16th through Fearless Records. So not long to wait now. The band are then embarking on their first ever headline tour of the UK in May, so for more info on that head over to: http://thesummersetband.com/
But what I really wanted to talk about is this: The new video and single ‘Maybe Tonight’.
“And then suddenly, it hit me. That moment you realise you’re not half empty. That moment of all moments. Like there is music in the night and we can dance the sun out of the sky. These are the nights where everything feels possible. Maybe one night we’ll fall short of the stories we tell, but tonight we’re more than just words on a page. We are here, we are different and we are everlasting. We are half moon kids.
We are legendary.” – Brian Dales.
There are no adequate words to describe the amazingness of this video and this song, but I’ll do my best. The speech at the beginning of the video (quoted above) is spoken with such genuine emotion and impact, it makes it truly moving and inspirational. believe in yourself. Be proud of who you are. Be you. Be legendary. And it really makes you want to be.
The song its self is an expansion of that message, and it’s upbeat, catchy, with heap loads of emotion. The musical style is pretty similar to, 2nd album, Everything’s Fine in terms of sound and production, and the lyrics are cathartic and have a sense of strength to them, an enlivening quality that makes you feel as though, for the 3 minutes you listen to this song, anything is possible. I can’t wait to see the band during their upcoming tour in May because I think this song would translate excellently live and create a very poignant atmosphere; accentuating the idea that
music has the ability to bring people together and feel as though their part of something amazing, because we all believe in this…message, song, band.
This is an amazing example of what The Summer Set are capable of and why they deserve every single one of their fans and every bit of good possible.
To want to create a community (http://halfmoonkids.com/) where fans can interact with each other and share the message of positivity is amazing. As it says on the website:
“We want our friends to strive to be the best version of themselves possible, and most importantly wake up every day and be excited to be themselves…Let’s push each other to be the people we want to become. Be Brave, Be Curious, & Be Legendary.”
I am proud to be a fan of The Summer Set and to say that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting John Gomez and Brian Dales, the 2nd of which I also had the chance to interview. They’re a great, genuine band and I wish them every success and I hope to chat to them again at some point and be a very small part of helping more people discover their music.
If you read this and watched the video, then please let me know what you thought in the comments 🙂 Thanks for reading.
